Middle School Transition (Grade 5 to 6)
A complete orientation program is presented to all 5th grade students and their parents to help make the move from elementary school to middle school successful.
- Visitation by the counselors to each 5th grade class to describe the middle school and to answer all questions
- Meeting with 5th grade teachers to discuss each incoming student.
- Parent Orientation night to describe the middle school structure and programs
- Spring visitation day for all incoming 5th graders
- Planning, preparation and distribution of student programs
- Summer tours upon request
- Fall of 6th grade- small group orientation
- Individual meetings with all 6th graders-get to know your counselor and guidance services
- 6th grade Parent Reception/Coffee
Grade 6 to 7 and Grade 7 to 8
Introduces students to the next grade level and plan programs.
- Meet with teaching teams to review course recommendation for all students
- Classroom orientation for all students
- Meet with students individually to discuss course selections and goals
- Parent Orientation Night/Coffee
- Planning, preparation and distribution of student programs
High School Orientation for 8th Graders
- Meet with teaching team to review high school course recommendations
- Arrange high school counselor visitations to middle school
- Meet with all 8th graders in group settings to review the high school programs in detail
- Distribute course recommendations
- Meet with every 8th grade student individually to discuss his/her high school program and high school goal, post high educational goals and possible career goals
- Provide the high school with course requests
